BHA has worked on many different project types that encompass multiple types of construction methods.  Our desire is that your vision is communicated through good design.  We accomplish this by listening to our clients and developing a plan that balances their wants and desires with their needs and resources.  We then help their vision become a reality by producing a detailed and complete set of documents.

About

Why BlowfisH?

One answer is that people rarely pronounce Hoch (Hoke)correctly.  The real reason, however, is that I believe business should always be mixed with a little levity and "The Blowfish List" is always something in which I have found great humor.  'The Blowfish List' was created at Harvard's Graduate School of Design by the students as a response to the harsh criticism they received when participating in design critiques for their projects. These design critiques were also held at Iowa State University during my college education.  They could be very stressful as visiting architects and professors pointed out all of the deficiencies of your design, but they also served a greater educational service.  The critiques taught the young designers that attention to detail, listening to the design parameters and communication are an essential part of practicing architecture.  When I decided to start my own firm, I wanted to anchor myself in the reality that each project is another opportunity to excel, but that it will also be critiqued by the owner, the contractor and myself.  So my business name is always a reminder to listen, communicate and pay attention to every detail so I don't feel the desire to perform one of the defenses listed in www.hippoblog.com/blowfish/.  Take a quick look to see if you have ever felt like doing one of these things in your business life and have a quick laugh to break up your day.‎
